Vancouver Folk Festival

Once a year, my significant other, Penny, and I escape to reality by attending the Vancouver Folk Festival.

This festival is organized the way society as a whole should be organized! Politics fills the air, culture is used to educate and bring people together and the site is organized for maximum accessibility for people with disabilities.

The weather was incredible and my favourite performer was Utah Phillips. Never one to miss an opportunity to make good use of a networking opportunity, I handed out over a hundred leaflets promoting COPE's annual summer salmon BBQ.

I can't wait for next year.

COPE Salmon BBQ

Tim hasn't posted in awhile so I'll do an update!

The annual Salmon BBQ Fundraiser at the Rowing Club at Coal Harbour is in the works again. We have a little less than 3 weeks to go (July 27, 2006) but it should be a good event! I heard that at last year's fundraiser, someone put in a bid for Tim to karaoke ... but he managed to outbid his way out of it! We'll see what happens this year..

Communities of Accessibility and Inclusion

The office was sent a copy of Measuring Up version 1.

Inside, a message from Mike Harcourt:

"The Accessible/Inclusive Cities and Communities concept, work and guide grew out of a commitment by the Rick Hansen Foundation, the City of Vancouver, and a broad gathering of disability groups, including the City's Advisory Committee on Disability Issues. Councillors Sam Sullivan and Tim Louis helped move the concept through Vancouver City Council, and onto the agenda of British Columbia's Municipalities in 2003/2004.
